MY SIN: Beyond Good and Evil EP + Chains 7"

Well, I figured that if I'm going to post a rare SF female-fronted darkwave EP with tortured religious overtones, I may as well post the male equivalent! This is the 12" EP from one-man San Francisco band My Sin, self-released on Endless Music, as well as his debut (I think) 7", called Chains. The 7" has one song (You End Up Swimming) that is on the 12", so I've only included the exclusive track.
My Sin were pretty productive, releasing several cassettes (at least one of which had an accompanying book) and eventually a CD in the early 90s. My Sin is a mix of darkwave, deathrock, and synthpop on these releases. Using only bass, synths, and drums (no guitars, apparently), this one-man band created some dark, gloomy, angry, and lyrically quite bitter music. He starts with excellent covers of the Stones (Moonlight Mile) and the Stooges (I Need Somebody) on one side of the 12", and all other songs are his own. If you like your darkwave and deathrock infused with a good deal of melodrama, download this one! And if you have any of his other releases (cassettes or CDs), I would love to hear them!

Holy Crap! What a blast from the past! I have the CD he released on Endless Music in 1990 but have been looking for his earlier stuff. Whatever became of this guy? I saw him play live in Hollywood in 88 or 89 and never heard anything from him again. The live show was pretty cool, incorporating videos and sometimes disturbing images to his music and vocals. Thanks for the post, now to download it!

I saw this dude open for OMD in the mid 80's at The Kabuki (Noh Club?) in San Francisco. It didn't go over well with the crowd... I think we liked atmospheric & experimental- but still wanted to dance that nite!

I still have the cassette I ordered from MRR back in the late 80s called "They Rode Me Out of Town On a Rail" - I can't find a single reference to it on the internet...

My step uncle was just telling me he used to manage this guy back in the 80s. Trippy! Glad I found it.

I saw My Sin open for Ultravox at The Kabuki Theatre in San Francisco in 1984. I thought he was pretty good. I remember seeing a red vinyl 12" from him in the Tower Records store in Concord not long after that show. I almost bought it. Wish I had.

I finally find something about Stan "Malinowski" . . . I worked in one of Sf's punk venues, the "on broadway" and, My Sin, was a frequent opener . . . I too was at the Kabuki that night and I think that's my hat that Stan is wearing!

Always wondered what became of him.

I also took a lot of pics back then, so if you have any requests, let me know.

Every now and then I wonder where Stan and My Sin have vanished too . . . I worked in the "On Broadway" and spent a lot of time, tripping around with him. I think that's my hat––he liked it––I have lots of pics from 1981-84's sf punk scene if anyone is interested.

We've got a copy of the red vinyl My Sin Ep at Wombleton in Los Angeles, along with some more odd SF stuff if anyone cares. Stop by sometime!

He played our DIY club in Arkansas in 1985. Quite a show! I saw him later and he was touring with Possum Dixon as a keyboard player.

While in college in mid 80s I taped the school radio station one night and recorded "You End Up Swimming". Have enjoyed the song ever since. Find his two CDs - Tribes and Build My Gallows High - plenty of good tracks and well worth having. I think his real name is Stan Fairbank. Would love to know what he is up to now.

I was at that SF show at the Kabuki when he opened for O.M.D. I don't remember people not enjoying it, I know I LOVED it. He had a bunch of cool bracelets and danced around by himself onstage with his little synth and drum machine and a remote control for a VCR that played accompanying video. The was OMD's Architecture & Morality tour, I think in 1981?

I still remember every song on this EP (well, all 3 of them). I know all the lyrics. I didn't realize until much later that two of them were covers.
